How Long Will It Take Me to Get to School? Transit Times to School District of Philadelphia High Schools

This descriptive study by Molly Pileggi, Marc L. Stein, Alyn Turner, and Nathaniel Dewey examines public transportation times for students in Philadelphia high schools. Using approximations of the fastest transportation routes, the authors look at the time it takes currently enrolled students to travel from their homes to school. The authors find that the average public transportation commute is 29 minutes. Students who live closer to major transportation corridors have shorter commutes than other students. Additionally, students who attend their neighborhood school have shorter commutes than students who attend citywide schools, who in turn have shorter commutes than students who attend special admissions schools.
